Ethan Cohen was one half of the Cohen Brothers know for their award-winning film such as No Country for Old Men and True Grit. Ethan decided to write direct and produce a film about two lesbians driving to Florida in a comedy Road Trip movie.

Why would such an accomplished director do something like this? Because Ethan’s wife Trisha cook, who co-wrote the movie with him recently revealed to the world that she is a lesbian and she has been sleeping with other partners although they’re still married. 

Instead of getting a divorce, Ethan decided to back his wife’s brand new pet project which is a film of about two lesbians driving around the southeast and having sex with everything in sight. Drive-Away Dolls is literally a cuckold humiliation ritual disguised as a movie.

Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan star as two lesbos embarking on a road trip to Tallahassee so they can get laid. That’s it, that’s the movie. For those of you who think I’m being short with this film, this is a film that does not have a plot.

This was a pitch to a major Hollywood studio to be a movie about lesbians that would showcase LGBTQ representation and they decided to insert a plot after the fact. This is a film that’s only 84 minutes long and 20 minutes of it are spent on non-sensical psychedelic flashbacks starring Miley Cyrus.

The movie is not only cinematic filler but is an insult to the word lazy. Margaret Qualley plays a spunky lesbian woman with a Southern accent that borders on Fog Horn Leg Horn in terms of believability. Geraldine Viswanathan is a cardboard cutout of a neurotic lesbian woman with no personality her character showcases exactly why Hollywood believes that sexual orientation is a substitute for Charisma and personality.

Viswanathan is basic and boring in every sense of the word but because she’s a lesbian the film expects audience to somehow identify with her based on nothing but her sexual orientation. This is a film that makes the exact same mistake that ‘Bros’ did a couple of years ago. The film attempts to Showcase a gay relationship as normal while revealing to the audience the core flaw of this type of Storytelling which mistakes degeneracy for intimacy.

When it comes to gay couples in this film everything revolves around sex. If our characters aren’t talking about sex, having sex, or making references to sex, they have nothing to talk about. These women don’t have any characteristics to even make the qualification of being a character, they’re just lesbians who have sex.

If Cohen and his wife wanted to make a Sex comedy, that’s one thing but this film presents itself as a run-of-the-mill comedy thriller which is neither funny nor thrilling unless you like Ralph Nader jokes in 2024. Drive-Away Dolls is a type of movie that elevates other terrible movies because at least with the other awful movies they the bare minimum and attempted to have a plot which this film does not have.

Next time, Ethan Cohen should try crafting a more successful conclusion to his failing marriage rather than co-writing this abomination of a movie that he expects audiences to consume.
