UPDATE: Disney has officially fired James Gunn as director of Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 3. They will also find a new writer for the film as Gunn had already written the script for the film back in June.
Director James Gunn is largely known for two things; Being the writer and director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of The Galaxy franchise and calling President Donald Trump and his supporters Nazis on Twitter. Now the Disney director is doing damage control after some decade old tweets and blog posts have resurfaced and has people asking some questions. According to the Daily Caller, the situation started with Gunn attempting to defend actor Mark Duplass who tried to get his liberal audience to listen to conservative commentator Ben Shapiro in an attempt to reach across the aisle. After swift Twitter backlash from his base, Gunn stepped in to say “Maybe you disagree with Mark Duplass, which is completely fair (personally I think even Ben Shapiro’s mother should unfollow him). But that doesn’t make Duplass’ point-of-view evil,” Gunn tweeted. “There are a lot of traitors & racists in the country today. Perhaps save the outrage for them.” Gunn then ended his Twitter rant by calling Shapiro an “asshole.”
Shortly after this, A TheDCNF search of his Twitter account revealed that nearly 1/3rd of Gunn’s tweets dating back nearly ten years were full of racist, anti-semitic, homophobic, rape, and paedophilia jokes. The worst of the deleted tweets you can find here courtesy of Film Gob.
But the story doesn’t end there, old posts from James Gunn’s blog depicting some disturbing details regarding children have some people really upset. Gunn describes the incident with a child and a monkey in detail, saying the story makes him “extremely happy.” “The trainer was too late. It only took the monkey a few seconds to bring himself to completion. A string of semen shot out of the mini-monkey-wood and splash-landed DIRECTLY ON THE KID.” Screaming and freaking out commenced. “I know it might be sick, but that story makes me extremely happy,” Gunn wrote.
Another disturbing post titled “Video: 100 Pubescent Girls Touch Themselves,” where he wrote “Huston Huddleston posted this video on my Facebook page with the note ‘I thought you’d appreciate this.’ My response: ‘Appreciate it?!! I just came all over my own face!!’” Now while the contents of the video can not be confirmed at this time, it is worth noting that Huston Huddleston whom Gunn says sent him the video is registered sex offender who pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of possessing child pornography.
Gunn has responded to the tweets by saying “In the past, I have apologized for humor of mine that hurt people. I truly felt sorry and meant every word of my apologies,” he continued, adding, “For the record, when I made these shocking jokes, I wasn’t living them out. I know this is a weird statement to make, and seems obvious, but, still, here I am, saying it.”
James Gunn has since deleted his entire twitter account.
