Looking to lick the wounds of The Mummy, a film that was not only a critical flop, a monetary flop (95 Million dollar loss), but it may have killed Universal’s Dark Universe before it even started. Tom Cruise is hoping everyone forgets about that film as his latest project, American Made hit theaters.
Logan Lucky is a good movie, the cast has a great time playing their roles and it shows. The problem is the film is not very original and very clichéd. The story becomes way too convenient in order for everything to work out and takes away from the risk of the heist. That doesn’t mean you won’t have a good time watching it because you will, and perhaps you learn a thing or two about NASCAR when it’s all said and done…like why you don’t watch it.
While it’s important not to shadow history it’s also important to context the events to truly understand what happened and why. Many people will watch this and think everything that happened here happened in real life which is not the case at all.
The film is a throwback to classic action crime movies meaning you won’t see anything you haven’t already seen before, plus the over the top ending takes away from an otherwise enjoyable film. For all it’s ups and downs, The Prison is a middle of a road action flick for people who favor crime and corruption film.
Matthew McConaughey plays Kenny Wells, a struggling owner of a mining company who smokes so many cigarettes; I thought I was going to get Lung Cancer watching this movie.
Sleepless is a one and done crime drama that is about as original as the French film that it’s based on.
Live by Night is a film that is written by Ben Affleck, produced by Ben Affleck, directed by Ben Affleck, and starring Ben Affleck…So there is literally no one else to blame for this film being a misguided mess but him.
A young Ukrainian immigrant, who moved to Canada and somehow doesn’t have a Ukrainian or Canadian accent, gets super butthurt because the bank fired his mother for possibly legitimate reasons.
The most frustrating thing about War Dogs is that I can see the potential for a good film but it is just not in the right hands creatively.
Hell or High Water is one of the best films of the year and it’s really a shame that this won’t get the mainstream cognition that it deserves. Director David Mackenzie has put himself on the map with this crime thriller and Sheridan’s writing there isn’t much more you can ask for this film.
Cold War 2 gets my vote for best movie of the weekend. The story can feel too complicated at times but it also shows that there are great action movies coming from the Far East side of the world.
