Every couple of years, we get a movie written by progressive filmmakers that tell a story about their lives they are completely clueless about because they are too narcissistic to see it.

Being a left-wing Progressive in 2022 is a miserable experience, and that’s not my opinion. All you have to do is simply watch the film, “Not Okay” and they will tell you that they live miserable, unhappy, and unfulfilled lives. Now if you listen to the critics, this is a film that is supposed to criticize how the negative aspects of social media affect our lives every day. If you listen to the critics, this is a film that takes a sledgehammer to white privilege, white feminism, and fascism. If that’s the takeaway you have from this movie, you haven’t even gotten past chapter one of the story this film is telling.

“Not Okay” it’s a film about the absolute state of misery that is being a left-wing progressive living in a major US city. The film begins with the story of a girl named Danni Sanders (Zoey Deutch), Danny is the photo editor of a progressive New York online magazine. Danni lives a miserable life, she has no friends, no social life, she lives in a run-down studio apartment, and nobody knows that she exists.

One day, she gets the idea of faking a trip to Paris for her followers on social media. Everything is going great until a terrorist attack happens in the city, the city that she’s not in. Danni proceeds to lie her way into convincing everyone that she was on the ground while the attacks happen. Danny becomes a social media star following the events of the attack but the deeper she lies, the bigger the hole she digs.

“Not Okay” is a god-awful bait-and-switch movie that is a lock for the top 10 worst movies of 2022, but let’s back up for a second. The first 40 minutes of this film is an open window into what the life of a modern-day progressive has become. The life of the bottom feeders of society who live in coastal cities. Our so-called protagonist Danni is obsessed with social media and works at a left-wing magazine with her peers who despise her because simply being a white woman isn’t woke enough in 2022. She lives in a terrible part of town tripping over homeless people every day, comes home to a run-down apartment, and spends the rest of her day browsing through social media wondering why she has no friends.

If Ben Shapiro wrote this script, a lot of you will feel personally attacked. This film was written by a writer and director named Quinn Shephard, who has no major credit to their name and thinks that she’s writing a movie that’s criticizing narcissism and nepotism while casting her lesbian fiance as a feature character in the film. There’s an old saying that goes give someone enough rope and they’ll hang themselves, Well give progressives enough time to write a story that’s nothing about themselves and they’ll tell you everything you need to know about who exactly they are.

This film is like listening to a serial killer unwillingly give up the location of the last three bodies that he buried because he’s too busy telling you a story that is the equivalent of him sniffing his farts. The irony is you’re watching a film written by someone who hates their main character but is no different than the character that they are crapping on. Just because you are queer, doesn’t mean that you aren’t the same person you are writing about.

Then comes the twist that causes the whole movie to fall apart. You see this film isn’t about a girl named Danni, You see this film is actually about a girl named Rowan (Mia Isaac), A character who is essentially the black female David Hogg. What started as a film about a narcissistic girl trying to find ways to feed her ego, turns into a story about a gun control activist being taken advantage of by a privileged white woman. To the point where the dialogue itself lets you know that Danni isn’t the main character of the story. Not only does the film abandon its premise halfway through the movie, but it doesn’t even give you an actual ending to the story.
It’s one thing to bash your audience over the head with diversity and inclusion along with not-so-subtle woke talking points that are almost beyond parody, but to force someone to sit through almost two hours of misery porn about just how sad and pathetic your life is and not even award them with a proper ending to the film is unforgivable.

Quinn Shephard has some pent-up issues regarding straight people, especially straight white people as she lets you know throughout the dialogue. If you are just a person looking for something interesting to watch on Hulu, do yourself a favor and watch “No Exit” instead.

“Not Okay” is a certified waste of time and a film probably hates you on top of that, so go spend your time being happy while the key demographic for this film lives in misery.
