Disney is back with yet ANOTHER Pirates of the Caribbean movie, I honestly don’t remember watching the last 3 maybe 4 films in this series. Who cares honestly, this series is only around to support Johnny Deep’s expensive lifestyle. Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales begins with the son of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) Henry (Brenton Thwaites), who tells his cursed father that the mythical Trident of Poseidon is able to break his curse and free him from Davy Jones Locker. Nine years later, young adult Henry works on a British Royal Navy warship that goes straight into the Devil’s Triangle, home of an army of undead sailors, led by Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem). Salazar demands the location of Jack Sparrow so he can act revenge for his demise.

We all know exactly what we are going to get from Johnny Depp at this point, he’s nothing more or nothing less than every other film in this franchise so your enjoyment of him will solely depend on how tired of his act you are. Dead Men Tell No Tales introduces Kaya Scodelario and Brenton Thwaites to the cast in what I expect is their attempt at putting the series in a new direction once Depp is truly done. Both are good, however, I have to question their ability to lead the series in the future. The story is disjointed and is pretty slow-paced in the first half. It’s not until an hour in they actually get the ball moving the film is pretty enjoyable. I think my biggest problem with this franchise is simply a lack of enthusiasm, I’m sure Disney will make its money, but I just feel nothing for this series to love it or hate it. I went into this film with very low expectations and when it was all said and done, I didn’t hate it. There wasn’t even much to nitpick, it’s a solid film. Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is a fine popcorn flick, there just isn’t much else I can say about it besides that.

  1. Good read! 🙂 Frankly, I don’t remember much about the last few PotC movies either. And Depp fatigue is very real. The only thing I like about the franchise is probably the soundtrack. So I guess I’ll be skipping this one!
