Japan remains one of the least Christianized nations on earth. From a Dispensational viewpoint the reason is not a failure of the Gospel of grace. It is the hardness of human hearts and the power of a culture built on Shinto, Buddhism, ancestor veneration, and extreme social conformity.

For centuries the nation suppressed the open preaching of Christ. Even after religious freedom arrived, most Japanese still treat Christianity as a foreign import rather than the only way of salvation. Group identity outweighs individual conversion. Many hear the message and politely reject it. The Church Age offer of free justification by faith alone in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Ephesians 2:8-9) is still valid there, yet the fields are hard.

God has not forgotten Japan. He still saves whosoever will. The same Book that predicts Israel’s future also commands the Gospel to every nation. Watch, pray, and do not write Japan off.
