In the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, an unlicensed Mafia-run bar in New York’s Greenwich Village that catered to illegal liquor sales and the solicitation of homosexual acts. What followed was not a noble stand for dignity but a multi-night outbreak of violence—bricks, bottles, fires, and open defiance of lawful authority.

Yet within a few years that chaotic defense of an illicit venue was transformed into a sacred founding myth: the spontaneous “uprising” that supposedly ignited a righteous civil-rights struggle. That lie, repeated for more than half a century, has guided the United States down a path of moral inversion that now, in 2026, saturates our laws, our schools, our entertainment, and our public square.
The Bible offers no ambiguity about the acts celebrated at Stonewall. Leviticus 18:22 declares, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” Romans 1:26-27 describes such behavior as the result of God giving people over to “vile affections” and “that which is against nature.” Genesis 1:27 and 2:24 establish the created order of male and female joined in one-flesh marriage. Any public movement that elevates the contrary is not progress; it is rebellion. The Stonewall narrative simply supplied the secular origin story that allowed a biblical prohibition to be rebranded as oppression.
Once the myth took hold, the institutional machinery followed. Decriminalization came first. State sodomy laws, long rooted in the same moral tradition as the common law, began falling in the 1970s under activist pressure. By 2003 the Supreme Court in Lawrence v. Texas swept away the remaining statutes, declaring private consensual same-sex acts a constitutional liberty.
What Scripture calls uncleanness received the protection of the highest court. Twelve years later Obergefell v. Hodges completed the redefinition of marriage itself, nullifying the biblical pattern of one man and one woman and compelling every state to recognize unions Scripture never contemplated. The civil magistrate, charged in Romans 13 with being “a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil,” instead conferred legitimacy on the evil.

Hollywood supplied the emotional conditioning that made these legal victories culturally inevitable. Will & Grace placed likable homosexual leads in America’s living rooms for eight seasons, training millions to laugh with rather than recoil from the lifestyle. Joe Biden himself later credited the show with educating the public more effectively than almost any other force.
Modern Family advanced the next stage, portraying a same-sex couple raising an adopted child as just another wholesome household. The title alone announced that the biblical family was now obsolete. By the late 2010s the campaign had become quota-driven. GLAAD’s 2019 “Where We Are on TV” report celebrated a record 10.2 percent of broadcast series regulars as LGBTQ—far above population reality—and immediately demanded higher numbers.
Studios were pressed to reach 20 percent LGBTQ characters in films by 2021 and 50 percent by 2024. Representation ceased to be storytelling and became numerical evangelism. The targeting of children marked a darker escalation. By 2021 major networks—Disney, WarnerMedia, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, PBS—were embedding LGBTQ characters and storylines into programming aimed at the youngest audiences.
What began as adult entertainment had become systematic exposure of impressionable minds to behaviors God calls abomination. In 2022, after Disney hesitated to oppose Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill, GLAAD expanded its Studio Responsibility Index to grade companies on political donations, public advocacy, and refusal to censor same-sex content abroad. Neutrality was no longer permitted. Corporations that once sold tickets and merchandise were conscripted as political agents of the movement.

The cumulative result in 2026 is a society that has mainstreamed what previous generations recognized as disordered. Pride Month is observed by government agencies and Fortune 500 companies. School curricula instruct children that biological sex is optional and that dissent is bigotry. Medical protocols place minors on irreversible pathways of sterilization and surgical alteration—practices that earlier Christian analysis rightly compared to the child sacrifice of Molech.
Drag performances appear in libraries and public parks. Biblical preaching on sexuality is increasingly treated as hate speech. The six-color rainbow flag flies where the seven-color covenant bow of Genesis 9 once stood as a sign of God’s mercy, a symbolic theft of divine promise.
Isaiah 5:20 warned of those who “call evil good, and good evil.” Romans 1 predicted the sequence: suppression of the Creator, idolatry of the creature, vile affections, and finally a reprobate mind that not only practices but “have pleasure in them that do them.” The Stonewall myth supplied the romantic origin story; the courts supplied the legal force; Hollywood supplied the daily catechism.
Together they produced a nation that now institutionalizes the very acts for which Sodom was destroyed by fire from heaven. This is not liberation. It is the public rejection of the created order. Individuals who have been caught in the current remain reachable—“And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:11).

Yet a people that has rewritten marriage, sexualized its children, and punished those who still speak the truth of Genesis and Romans invites the judgment that Scripture has already pronounced. The lie told about a bar raid in 1969 has borne its fruit. The question for 2026 is whether any still have ears to hear the warning that once fell on the plains of Jordan.
