Vice President JD Vance’s 2026 memoir Communion recounts his path from childhood Protestantism to atheism to 2019 Catholic baptism. He now says he believes Jesus Christ’s teachings are true. From a consistent Dispensational viewpoint, that is not the same as trusting the finished work of Christ alone for salvation. Roman Catholicism adds sacraments, the Mass, and church mediation to the Gospel.

Scripture says a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law (Romans 3:28; Ephesians 2:8-9). Vance’s own earlier atheism and later emphasis on tradition, ritual, and “finding my way back” illustrate a process-oriented religion rather than the instant new birth of John 3:16 and Acts 16:31. In this Church Age the only way to heaven is believing that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). No pope, no baptism, no meritorious works.

Political prominence does not change the Bible’s terms. Watch, compare Scripture with Catholicism, and make sure your own faith is in Christ alone.
