The story begins in the aftermath of the chaotic Balenciaga Fashion Show in Paris, where Marcus and Thomas, having stolen Richard Sampson’s laundered fortune, fled to the United Arab Emirates to avoid extradition for their 2012 prison break. They built a camp in the Emirates, looking into information on Babylon. Back in Paris, Ray, Davis, and Ken interrogate Arata Sang-Hun, the hacker known as “Protagonist,” at Boulangerie Utopie. Arata admits to wholesaling data theft and intelligence deals for Babylon but claims he knows little about their inner workings, as the organization compartmentalizes information for security.
