I wasn’t expecting a political debate about a borderline throwaway film released during Labor Day Weekend (a graveyard for cinema) yet here I am. Kin, a movie about a boy who finds an alien gun and gets caught up against a bunch of bad people is in theaters on Thursday. I saw the film and enjoyed it, however, I was a bit surprised by the negative reaction behind it. I mean the movie definitely has flaws, but it wasn’t a bad film by any means.
You know Future World was doomed to fail when you saw “Also Starring Snoop Dogg” in the trailer. A film that was shot two years ago is a good sign that Lionsgate wanted absolutely nothing to do with this movie and it wasn’t because of Franco’s #MeToo allegations, it was because the film is horrible.
The effects are great, the gore is well done, and those goddamn face huggers are still suckering people in long after they should know better. Alien: Covenant is a well-shot thriller for a franchise that is waiting for Young CGI Ripley to conclude Riley Scott’s work.
