NASA would never lie to us about something like THIS, would they?

The Bible interpreted literally as the infallible standard of truth, presents a clear, coherent cosmology that must judge every competing claim. From Genesis 1 onward, Scripture describes a stationary flat Earth founded on immovable pillars, covered by a solid firmament called Heaven that divides waters above from waters below, with the sun, moon, and stars set inside that firmament as lights for signs and seasons.
Events such as the Tower of Babel, Noah’s Flood, and Jonah’s descent into Sheol only function exactly as written under this model. This article examines three major cosmologies—the secular NASA view, the modern Flat Earth conspiracy model, and the ancient Hebrew (Biblical) model—first explaining what each believes and teaches, then applying each to the three key Biblical narratives, and finally assessing their alignment with a literal reading of the Bible.
What Each Cosmology Believes and Teaches
NASA (Secular)
The NASA secular cosmology is the dominant modern scientific model. It teaches that Earth is an oblate spheroid (slightly flattened at the poles) approximately 24,901 miles in equatorial circumference, rotating on its axis at over 1,000 mph while orbiting the sun at 67,000 mph in a heliocentric solar system. The sun is a nuclear fusion star 93 million miles away; the moon is a rocky satellite 238,000 miles distant; stars are distant suns in a galaxy of billions, within an observable universe of hundreds of billions of galaxies expanding from a Big Bang 13.8 billion years ago.

There is no firmament, no waters above or below, no special centrality for Earth, and no immovable foundations. Earth is an insignificant “pale blue dot” in a godless, mechanistic cosmos governed by gravity, relativity, and quantum mechanics. NASA’s view is presented as empirical truth backed by satellite imagery, space missions, and physics, dismissing Biblical descriptions as pre-scientific metaphor.
Flat Earth
The modern Flat Earth conspiracy model emerged in the 19th century and gained traction online in recent decades as a direct challenge to NASA. It teaches that Earth is a flat, circular disk with the North Pole at the center and an ice wall (Antarctica) encircling the perimeter to contain the oceans. A transparent or solid dome (firmament-like structure) arches overhead, containing the sun and moon as small, close objects (often placed 3,000 miles above the surface) that circle in a spotlight pattern to create day and night.

Stars are embedded in or projected onto the dome. Gravity is often replaced by upward acceleration or density/buoyancy. Proponents claim NASA, governments, and space agencies conspire to hide the true flat, stationary Earth through faked photos, CGI, and suppressed experiments, citing Biblical verses about a “circle of the earth” (Isaiah 40:22), “four corners,” and an immovable world. While it rejects the spinning globe, it incorporates modern elements like precise distances, an impenetrable ice barrier, and conspiracy narratives not found in Scripture.
Hebrew Cosmology

The ancient Hebrew cosmology is the plain, literal description given in the Bible itself, rooted in the worldview of ancient Israel. It teaches a stationary, flat, circular-disk Earth (“circle of the earth,” Isaiah 40:22) founded on immovable pillars or foundations in the “great deep” (Tehom), with “four corners” or “ends of the earth.”
On Day 2, God created a solid, glassy firmament (raqia, called Heaven) like molten glass (Job 37:18) that divides the waters above from the waters below (Genesis 1:6-8). The sun (“greater light”), moon (“lesser light”), and stars are lights set in the firmament on Day 4 for signs, seasons, and to rule day and night (Genesis 1:14-19).
Sheol (the underworld) lies beneath the Earth’s foundations, connected to the great deep and accessible via the sea’s depths. The entire structure is a three-tier universe: firmament/Heaven above, Earth in the middle, Sheol/abyss below—all enclosed within cosmic waters. Everything was created centrally and specially for humanity on a fixed, special Earth that “cannot be moved” (1 Chronicles 16:30; Psalm 93:1; Psalm 104:5).

No conspiracy, no ice wall, no spotlight mechanics, and no Big Bang—just the exact structure described in Genesis and supported throughout Scripture.
The Biblical Stories Under Each Cosmology
Tower of Babel
The Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9 KJV) tells of unified humanity on a “plain in the land of Shinar” building a city and tower “whose top may reach unto heaven” to make a name and avoid scattering. God descends, confounds their language, and scatters them “upon the face of all the earth” because “nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.”
Under NASA cosmology, the story collapses into impossibility. There is no solid Heaven to reach—only endless vacuum beginning roughly 62 miles up (the Karman line). A brick tower on a spinning, curved globe could never physically attain orbital space; rotation, gravity, and structural limits would destroy it. God’s declaration that nothing restrains their imagination would be false, since physics already restrains them.

The single “plain” and “face of the whole earth” lose meaning on a spherical body where people live on every side with separate skies. The narrative becomes myth or exaggeration, not literal history.
Under modern Flat Earth, the event is more feasible but still strained. The flat disk and dome allow a tall tower to approach the firmament-like barrier, and the central North Pole plain fits the geography.
However, the added ice wall and precise small sun/moon distances are irrelevant to the text and introduce complications: the dome’s exact height and material are speculative. The conspiracy element (NASA hiding the dome) has no place in Genesis. The story works directionally but requires extra-Biblical assumptions to complete the picture.

Under Hebrew cosmology, the account is perfectly literal and seamless. The stationary flat Earth is a single plain under one solid, reachable firmament called Heaven. A sufficiently tall tower on the level surface could reach it, exactly as the builders intended and God acknowledged. The “face of the whole earth” and unified scattering make perfect sense. No errors arise; the event demonstrates the cosmology’s reality.
The Flood of Noah
Noah’s Flood (Genesis 6–9 KJV) describes global judgment: “all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened” (7:11), covering “all the high hills… under the whole heaven” fifteen cubits upward (7:19-20). Waters later recede when “the fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped” (8:2).
NASA cosmology renders the mechanics impossible. No firmament exists, so no “windows of heaven” or waters above can open. Covering every mountain simultaneously on a spinning globe with uniform depth defies gravity, tides, and curvature; the required water volume would destroy the planet or violate conservation laws. Recession has nowhere to go without a dome or deep compartments. The “whole heaven” and single-face coverage language become geographic errors. The Flood becomes local or allegorical at best.

Modern Flat Earth allows a global flood more readily on a flat plane, with a dome permitting waters above to be released. Yet the ice wall must somehow contain or participate without being mentioned, and spotlight celestial bodies complicate the forty-day rain.
Conspiracy claims about suppressed flood evidence add layers absent from Scripture. The story functions better than NASA’s but still incorporates unBiblical extras.
Hebrew cosmology makes the Flood exactly as described. The great deep (Tehom) beneath the Earth’s pillars supplies fountains; the solid firmament holds cosmic waters released through literal windows. On a flat, stationary disk under one Heaven, uniform coverage of all mountains “under the whole heaven” is straightforward. Recession simply returns waters to their compartments. Jonah 2 and Job 38:16 confirm the deep-sea connection. No contradictions—pure literal fulfillment.
The Story of Jonah

Jonah’s Descent (Jonah 2:1-10 KJV) records the prophet cast into the sea, praying “out of the belly of hell [Sheol]” while “the depth closed me round about… I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever.” God commands the fish to vomit him onto dry land.
NASA cosmology treats this as impossible poetry. The sea’s depths are just ocean trenches on a globe; Sheol cannot be a literal underworld beneath foundations. No “bars of the earth” or great deep gateway exist. Jonah’s physical descent into Sheol while alive contradicts a vacuum-dominated cosmos.
Modern Flat Earth improves the setting with a flat plane and deep ocean bordering the ice wall or dome edge, but Sheol’s precise location under pillars requires the Biblical three-tier structure, not modern additions. The conspiracy focus distracts from the text.
Hebrew cosmology illuminates the passage perfectly. The great deep connects surface oceans directly to Sheol beneath the Earth’s pillars and bars. Jonah literally descends alive to the underworld border, seaweed-wrapped at the “bottoms of the mountains,” exactly as the Hebrew model predicts. The fish serves as divine transport in and out. This event proves the deep-sea-as-entrance-to-Sheol/abyss theory and harmonizes with the Flood and Babel.

How the Three Cosmologies Align with a Literal Reading of the Bible
A literal Bible reading demands zero contradictions with the plain text. The Hebrew cosmology aligns perfectly—it is the Bible’s model. Every detail (stationary flat disk, solid firmament with windows, lights set inside, great deep, Sheol beneath, immovable foundations) matches Genesis 1, the Flood, Babel, Jonah, Job, Psalms, and Isaiah without addition or omission.
Biblical events unfold exactly as written; no errors, no metaphors forced upon history. It upholds inerrancy. The modern Flat Earth conspiracy model aligns partially but introduces errors. It correctly rejects the globe and affirms a flat, stationary Earth under a dome-like structure, allowing the stories to function better than NASA’s.
However, it adds unscriptural specifics—an ice wall barrier, precise low-altitude spotlight sun/moon, upward acceleration, and conspiracy narratives—that Scripture never mentions and that risk violating the principle against adding to God’s Word (Deuteronomy 4:2; Revelation 22:18-19). While closer to truth than the globe, it is not identical to the Hebrew model and therefore contains several points of deviation.

The NASA secular cosmology aligns with none of the literal text. It contradicts the immovable Earth, solid firmament, waters above/below, creation order, and central purpose. The three stories become riddled with factual errors: impossible towers, non-existent windows, un-coverable mountains, unreachable Sheol.
Forcing Genesis into NASA’s framework turns the Bible from inerrant history into myth, directly opposing the command to let Scripture judge all things.
Conclusion
In conclusion, when the Bible is the standard, only the ancient Hebrew cosmology stands without error. It alone makes the Tower of Babel reachable, Noah’s Flood global and reversible by divine windows and fountains, and Jonah’s descent a literal journey to Sheol’s bars.

NASA’s view systematically falsifies the text; modern Flat Earth improves on NASA but still falls short by importing modern inventions. The literal Bible describes reality: a fixed, flat Earth under a glassy firmament, with Sheol in the great deep below. All other models must be judged—and found wanting—by God’s unchanging Word.
