A literal reading of the Bible reveals these ten as kingdoms or nations yielding power to a blasphemous ruler (Revelation 17:12–13), symbolized as iron-and-clay toes in Daniel’s statue (Daniel 2:41–42) and horns on a beast (Daniel 7:7–8, 24). This bloc, centered on the “king of the north” — a Syrian-based tyrant exalting himself “above every god” (Daniel 11:36) and invading Israel (v. 41) — wages war on God’s people during the seven-year tribulation (Daniel 9:27; Matthew 24:15–21).
