Apparently, not everyone is allowed to preach solidarity on the topic of police brutality and race relations. Earlier this week, actor Mark Wahlberg in a sign of solidarity vocalized his support of the Black Lives Matter movement in the wake of the death of George Floyd. His call for unity was immediately attacked by social media’s cancel culture.

Wahlberg posted on twitter the following message:

The murder of George Floyd is heartbreaking. We must all work together to fix this problem. I’m praying for all of us. God bless.

While Wahlberg’s message was meant to show support of the Black Lives Matter movement, BLM supporters were less than thrilled about the actor’s warm words. Social Media users were quick to dig up Wahlberg’s past racial incidents that occurred in the mid to late 1980s.

During his teen years, Wahlberg was involved in numerous race-related incidents including in the beating of a Vietnamese man who he allegedly blinded in one eye. Wahlberg was charged with attempted murder, pleaded guilty to felony assault, and was sentenced to two years in jail, but served only 45 days of his sentence.

Wahlberg has spent years trying to atone for his past racist actions and personally apologized to the man he assaulted all those years ago.

But that doesn’t matter to the moral puritans of Twitter. Twitter users went after Wahlberg due to his past actions in light of his call for togetherness.

A few Twitter users attempted to defend Mark’s past actions.

  3. I am African American male and l believe people should accept Mark Wahlberg apology.
The past should be kept in the past and Mark Wahlberg is almost 50 years old and he is now a changed married successful man.
People sometimes make very bad mistakes when they are in their younger years and they turn their life around when they get older.
Mark Wahlberg has made his contrition to society so please Ladies and Gentlemen let’s accept it and move on.
    Thank you.
