According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Disney is currently looking at rebooting it’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise with a female lead.

The top name on Disney’s list to take over the role popularized by Johnny Deep is actress Karen Gillan who plays Nebula in Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers franchises.

It is not confirmed if the actress has had any formal talks with Disney, but the studio is definitely interested. Disney is also considering women of color for the role or as a supporting character in what looks to be an all-female reboot of the series.

Johnny Depp is not expected to reprise the role of Captain Jack Sparrow.
