Unlike the National Football League (NFL) and the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Hockey League (NHL) and Major League Baseball (MLB) are refusing to submit to leftist pressure to skip President Trump’s White House visit in order to make a statement against his presidency.

On Monday afternoon, President Donald Trump welcomed the Washington Nationals to the White House to celebrate their 2019 World Series victory over the Houston Astros. This marks the third World Series champion who has made the trip to the White House along with the Astros in 2017 and the Boston Red Sox last year. The NHL has also sent every Stanley Cup champion to the White House in the Trump era as the Pittsburgh Penguins went in 2017, and both the Washington Capitals and the current defending champions St. Louis Blues visited in 2019.

The NHL and MLB have been the only two of the American “Big 4” sports leagues to send every champion to visit the white house in the Trump era. The New England Patriots have been the only NFL team to visit the White House which they did in 2017 but are unlikely to go back in 2019 to celebrate their latest win. In 2018, the Philadelphia Eagles refused to attend the White House with quarterback Nick Foles being the only player to express interest in attending.

The NBA has refused to send any champions to the white house in the Trump era and will likely not return as long as a Republican is president.

  1. I gotta start watching more baseball. My grandmother used to watch hockey games with me when I was small, mainly because she loved the fights that would break out.
