And this is why you never pander to the far-left.

The NFL recently signed a deal with Jay-z and Roc Nation to bring forward a ‘social justice Initiative’ to the league. Jay-Z will not only co-produce the NFL’s halftime show, but he will also play a large and influential role in one of the NFL’s leading social justice initiatives. According to the NFL:

“Roc Nation (Jay-Z’s company) announced it has entered into a long-term partnership with the National Football League as the league’s official Live Music Entertainment Strategists. The partnership will begin as the NFL’s 100th season kicks off (this year) and will serve as a commitment from Roc Nation and the NFL to nurture and strengthen community through music and the NFL’s Inspire Change initiative.”
What is the “Inspire Change” initiative?

According to the NFL release, it supports, “priority areas identified by NFL Players, including education and economic advancement, improving police-community relations, and criminal justice reform.”

Jay-Z is excited to work with the NFL to “inspire change.”

“With its global reach, the National Football League has the platform and opportunity to inspire change across the country,” Jay-Z said in the statement.

Now while this should be seen as a move to please far-left social justice activists, it turns out that the move only served to further anger them as they are now blaming Jay-z for working with “the enemy”.

The far-left sees former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick as a cultural icon. Now they see Jay-z, who is a Kaepernick advocate himself, as a sellout for making a deal with the league while Colin doesn’t have a job. One of those critical of the partnership was Kaepernick’s friend and former teammate Eric Reid who responded to a quote from Jay-Z defending his decision to work with the NFL “when Colin Kaepernick is still out of a job?”

“Everybody knows I agree with what you’re saying [in Kaepernick’s underlying message]. So what are we gonna do?” Jay-Z said. “[Help] millions and millions of people, or we get stuck on Colin not having a job.”

“These aren’t mutually exclusive,” Reid responded. “They can both happen at the same time! It looks like your goal was to make millions and millions of dollars by assisting the NFL in burying Colin’s career.”

Kaepernick’s girlfriend, radio host Nessa Diab, described herself as being at a “lost for words.” Journalist David Dennis Jr. described how photos of Jay-Z with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell felt “at best like a gut punch and at worst like a betrayal.” Atlantic columnist Jemele Hill argued that the alliance “plays right into the NFL’s hands, because the league seems determined to banish any memory of Kaepernick with its recent social-justice efforts—even though it’s likely that Jay-Z and the NFL wouldn’t even be entering into this arrangement if Kaepernick hadn’t taken a knee in 2016.” NFL columnist Mike Freeman declared that “no amount of money can erase the fact the NFL punished Kaepernick for speaking out on behalf of people of color.”

The NFL has become more politicized than ever since Kaepernick began his protest of America and its national anthem back in 2016. Since then, the league has desperately tried to keep the far-left at the expense of its fanbase who simply want to watch a football game. The far-left believe the NFL took away Kaepernick’s career despite the fact he opted out of his last deal for more money, which he never got given he was a backup quarterback in his last season. The activists won’t be happy until Colin is welcomed back into the league where he can protest on their grand stage and the NFL fans won’t be happy until the league stops shoving social justice down their throats and get back to focusing on the games.

One thing is certain, no one is currently happy with what the NFL is doing and this is why you never pander to the far-left.

  1. The far left activists are correct. This is a sell out. The owners are taking the least painful route out of the quagmire they got themselves into with their “justice” posturing by buying off the opposition. Personally, I think Football is going to be much less popular very soon as it no longer “looks like America”.
