John Nolte of Breitbart wrote an editorial explaining how this week’s box office shows that four franchises that pushed a progressive ideology, all went down in flames with mediocre at best box office returns.

Just about every film this week drew lower than their box office projections which given their production and marketing budgets, wasn’t anything to write home about in the first place. Men in Black: International opened #1 at the box office but did so by only drawing 28.5 million in its opening weekend making it the worst opening of all four Men In Black films to date. With a production budget of 110 million, the film won’t see much profit if any at the end of it’s run.

Star of the film, Tessa Thompson, sparked debate this week about whether the name “Men in Black” was inclusive enough and even suggested renaming the series to “Humans in Black“. While the film was probably never going to do well without Will Smith in the first place, the nonsensical and unnecessary debate about whether the word ‘Men’ is offensive or not, especially from someone who is not even a established star in the series, probably didn’t help their box office chance when it was all said and done.

Speaking of unnecessary talks about people being upset about the word ‘man’, Dark Phoenix dropped 83% in its second weekend meaning that the film in two weeks has BARELY matched it’s production budget and will surely lose millions of dollars by the end of it’s run. It makes you wonder why the studio thought releasing a scene a week before the film came out where Jennifer Lawrence lectures James McAvoy about women always saving the men thus changing the name of the “X-Men” was a smart idea.

Then you have Shaft starring Samuel L. Jackson. Remember a few months ago when Jackson said that he didn’t give a fuck if you watched one of his movies?

I know how many motherfuckers hate me. “I’m never going to see a Sam Jackson movie again.” Fuck I care? If you never went to another movie I did in my life, I’m not going to lose any money. I already cashed that check. Fuck you. Burn up my videotapes. I don’t give a fuck. 

Well…people didn’t go see his movie. The film missed it’s 20 million dollar opening week projection by only drawing 8 million this weekend on a 35 million dollar production budget despite opening in over 2400 theaters nationwide. Don’t expect a huge international draw for this film, it looks like another big-time money loser and it has no one to blame but itself.

Ironically, the only film that got positive reviews this week was also the wokest film of them all. Mindy Kaling’s Late Night is a film that touts a progressive female late-night show dealing with issues of sexism, gender inequality, and diversity hiring. The film only had a budget of 6 million but only drew 4 million in its opening weekend.

If you look past the films that opened this week, you see that other films that pushed a progressive agenda also haven’t done well this summer. Rocketman, the biopic of Elton John is nowhere near the hit of Bohemian Rhapsody making almost 800 million dollars less than last year’s film. Controversy about the film’s gay sex scenes along with Elton’s comments denouncing the idea of English Sovereignty probably didn’t help the film’s box office outlook.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters has only drawn 340 million dollars meaning that adding in its marketing budget the film will likely lose millions which is not a good sign for a film that was supposed to set up a Godzilla vs King Kong film in a couple of years, perhaps you should have ignored the ‘The Bechdel Test’.

The summer box office has been a bust so far and when you look at the future of what is coming next…the film industry is going to need Disney to save them from embarrassment, and that is a terrifying outlook. Toy Story 4 which comes out next Friday has questions about whether that film will get bit by the woke monster seeing how it’s under Disney’s umbrella. Despite that, the film is certain to be a hit at the box office with the family audience.

Spider-Man: Far From Home, the first post-Endgame MCU film with Peter Parker and his ‘very diverse’ cast of friends will have to see if there is any juice left with the newer Avengers. Then you have the live-action remake of The Lion King, which once again being a Disney film, you are easily rolling the dice on what you are going to get.

Right now, even with Avengers: Endgame reaching the #1 spot for the highest grossing movie of all time, the box office is on pace to be down nearly 2 billion dollars from a year ago. Sadly, this will not detour Hollywood from pushing out even more remakes, reboots, and woke lectures on the big screens. Just don’t expect general audiences to run out in droves to see it.
