Outspoken conservative actor James Woods has taken a stand against Twitter and is refusing to return to the platform until free speech is defended on the platform. Woods  was banned from Twitter last month after posting a paraphrased Ralph Waldo Emerson quote, “‘If you try to kill the King, you best not miss,’” accompanied by the hashtag “#HangThemAll.” Twitter has stated that Woods’s account will be locked until he deletes the Tweet which Woods has refused to do.

“Twitter demanded that I rescind my tweet paraphrasing Emerson,” Woods said in a statement to The Daily Wire. “It now seems they have chosen to delete that tweet from my account without my permission. Until free speech is allowed on Twitter, I will not be permitted to participate in our democracy with my voice. As long as Jack Dorsey remains the coward he seems to be, my Twitter days are in the past.”

Woods didn’t state if he plans on using another platform in the future but he has stated that his Twitter career looks to be over. Silicon Valley tech giants have been rapidly purging conservative voices from their platforms as the 2020 President Election heats up. President Trump commented on the purge of right-wingers by saying:

“How can it be possible that James Woods (and many others), a strong but responsible Conservative Voice, is banned from Twitter?” President Trump said last week. “Social Media & Fake News Media, together with their partner, the Democrat Party, have no idea the problems they are causing for themselves. VERY UNFAIR!”
