A disputed tale of events about a recent meeting between singer Beyonce and Clothing Giant Reebok, has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way and possibly for good reason. The story took off on ESPN’s The Jump when one of the network’s writers Nick DePaula reported that the reason Beyonce refused a deal with Reebok was that during the pitch presentation, the singer was upset at the lack of “diversity” in the room and abruptly left the meeting because of it.

DePaula said on the show

“Beyoncé had a meeting at Reebok and they had a whole presentation of everything, potential products, how this could all look, and she kind of took a step back and said, ‘Is this the team that will be working on my product? Somebody said, ‘Yes,’ and she said, ‘Nobody in this room reflects my background, my skin color and where I’m from and what I want to do.’ So she took a step back and left and then it did not come to terms.

The story implies that because there weren’t enough black people on the Reebok representation, Beyonce walked out of the room, refusing a deal and later signed with Adidas. However, according to TMZ, Reebok is denying that Beyonce walked out of the meeting.

In an official response from Reebok

“The report that Beyoncé walked out of a meeting with Reebok due to lack of diversity is categorically false. Our discussions with Beyoncé and her team continued for several months after our initial meeting. We are disappointed that false information is being reported as fact.”

Beyonce’s team has not responded to the reports and there is no official reason why a deal fell through. It is worth noting that Reebok is a subsidiary of Adidas.
