Marvel’s Captain America Denounces His Country, This Is Why #Comicsgate Was Created

If you have been a member of #comicsgate for the last couple of years, then you KNEW this day was coming, there was no other outcome than this. You put a man who is notorious for making statements that display his hatred for America and Patriotism as the writer of the most patriotic superhero not named Superman and it was no surprise that just 7 issues in, Captain America has denounced his country because the President of the United States is a Russian Agent…THIS is why ComicsGate exists.

Originally reported by The Daily Wire’s Jacob Airey, in the latest issue of the Ta-Nehisi Coates’s Captain America, the superhero has officially renounced his association with the United States because the President has become a villain. Steve Rogers, Cap’s secret identity, is framed for murdering General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Cap decides to surrender to the authorities and relays this inner monologue renouncing America. In the issue Steve Rogers says this:

“How can I claim to serve my country when I constantly oppose it? How can I carry this shield and fight the government that entrusted me with it?” he ponders. “Freedom. Democracy. The right of people to choose. This is the world they’ve chosen. This is the world they wanted. Charlatans had claimed the dream that most Americans want.”

Now does this sound like something that Captain America, a character that has been the symbol of American Patriotism for decades would actually say, or does this mirror the sentiments of an anti-American writer who has been handed the avatar by Marvel Entertainment to project his personal feelings about President Trump and the country towards their loyal readers? If you ask people in the comic book industry, the only reason anyone would have a problem with Ta-Nehisi Coates writing this character is that you’re a bigot who doesn’t want a black guy writing in the industry…This is why Comicsgate exists.

Ta-Nehisi Coates at the University of Virginia during the MLK Celebration 2015

Last year, when rapper Kanye West voiced his support for President Trump, Coates went to The Atlantic and wrote a piece entitled “I’m not black, I’m Kanye”. In this piece, Coates said that Kanye because of his support of Trump was NOT black, he does not represent black people, and only wants ‘White Freedom’. This is who Marvel decided should be the writer for the next Captain America series. Ta-Nehisi Coates made the following comments about America and West:

West calls his struggle the right to be a “free thinker,” and he is, indeed, championing a kind of freedom—a white freedom, freedom without consequence, freedom without criticism, freedom to be proud and ignorant; freedom to profit off a people in one moment and abandon them in the next; a Stand Your Ground freedom, freedom without responsibility, without hard memory; a Monticello without slavery, a Confederate freedom, the freedom of John C. Calhoun, not the freedom of Harriet Tubman, which calls you to risk your own; not the freedom of Nat Turner, which calls you to give even more, but a conqueror’s freedom, freedom of the strong built on antipathy or indifference to the weak, the freedom of rape buttons, pussy grabbers, and fuck you anyway, bitch; freedom of oil and invisible wars, the freedom of suburbs drawn with red lines, the white freedom of Calabasas.

Progressives applauded this…Marvel applauded this…This is why Comicgate exists. Ta-Nehisi Coates is known for making the statement slamming the police and firefighters of the 9/11 attacks who died running into the burning buildings to save people’s lives

“They were not human to me. Black, white, or whatever, they were menaces of nature; they were the fire, the comet, the storm, which could  with no justification shatter my body.”

Marvel made him a writer for Captain America. Ta-Nehisi Coates claims ‘White America’ is a syndicate arrayed to protect its exclusive power to dominate and control our (non-whites) bodies…Marvel made him a writer for their top hero.  Now, this isn’t the first time Coates’s toxic world view has been front and center for a major Marvel comic book character.

As Bleeding Fool’s Micah Curtis reminds us, Coates’ failed Marvel series, “Black Panther and The Crew” was canceled after only two issues due to low sales. The entire story was a poorly-veiled allusion to the death of Freddie Gray, which sparked violent protests and the deadliest month that Baltimore had seen in 40 years. Despite the fact that half of the officers involved in the arrest were black, and all either had charges dropped or were exonerated at trial, Coates still felt the need to make characters like Storm and Misty Knight inexplicably hate white people (despite both having had sexual relationships with white men in the past), and debut never before seen racist, robot police officers. This is who Marvel put in charge of Captain America, this is why Comicsgate exists. We ALL saw this coming. Last May, I wrote this before a single issue was released:

The biggest takeaway here is that the next writer of Marvel’s Captain America will be a guy who fundamentally hates America. This is the guy Marvel has hired to write the most patriotic character in the history of Comic books. Marvel’s sells are in the trash, comic book stores nationwide are shutting down, fans are fed up, and stuff like this isn’t helping anyone. While most in the media are currently praising Ta-Nehisi Coates for his words against Kanye West, they may want to do some research because going all in supporting Coates toxic worldview. As far as comic book fans go, it’s time to accept that the Captain America you all know and love is dead, and Ta-Nehisi Coates will deliver the death blow.

And now we are here, Captain America is now the Captain of nothing, because screw America. Why? Because America is now under control of the Russians and the President is the puppet…no this is not an opening statement from Reliable Sources with Brian Stelter, this is the current storyline of Ta-Nehisi Coates’s Captain America comic.

So the next time someone tells you the only reason you disprove of race-baiting bigot writing Captain America is because he is black, remember, this is why Comicsgate exists….and we fucking called.

[But hey! At least Captain America isn’t a Nazi anymore]

  1. Captain America has been used to push the left’s agenda before. In particular just after Vietnam. That was when undergound comics were kicking Marvel’s butt and they needed to grab for that older audience. Now it’s a multinational corporation that doesn’t like Trump’s policies that gives the keys of a mainstream patriotic character to a far left racist radical. F Disney and F Disney CEO Bob Iger.

  2. Captain America has denounced the American government more than once, going under the guide of “the Nomad”

IMO the reason why comicsgate was created was because big comic companies like Marvel are pushing the SJW agenda, creating diverse characters to replace the originally white male characters, instead of creating new original characters, pushing stories and political opinions no one is asking for and then blaming the fandom and retailers for not being able to sell those books.
