Last Sunday, Singer Taylor Swift made headlines by coming out to condemn Tennessee Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn in her race against Democrat Phil Bredesen. While the media praised and hailed Swift as a game changer in politics, the latest polls haven’t reflected that yet, as a matter of fact, it has had the opposite effect.

In the latest poll by NY Times/Siena College, Blackburn now has a 14 point lead (54-40) over opponent Phil Bredesen with a 4% margin of error. Phil Bredesen currently only holds a +1 favorable vs unfavorable rating in Tennessee vs. Blackburn who has a +13 favorable vs unfavorable. While Bredesen is trying to market Swift’s endorsement, Democrats in Tennessee are upset about his support of Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court which would explain his drop in the polls. The hope was that Taylor Swift’s endorsement would drive young voters to vote Democrat but the 18-29 demographic is split almost even with 13% undecided.

Swift came out against Blackburn for not supporting progressives policies

She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values.  She Said
