Conservative Comedian and talk show host Steven Crowder found himself in a little trouble after one of his famous “change my mind” segments got so ugly, the university itself made a statement denouncing him. On Monday, Crowder attended TCU (Texas Christian University) to film a segment for his show called “Rape Culture Is a Myth, Change My Mind”. In an attempt to debunk the narrative that rape is institutionalized in America and college campuses, things got ugly when multiple students verbally attacked the comedian and demanded police officers throw him off of campus. While no arrests were made and the segment went on as planned, TCU later issued a statement saying while the comedian’s first amendment rights are protected, his views are not welcome on campus.

Today, Steven Crowder chose to challenge our students on a public sidewalk in front of the university. While the Constitution gives him the right to express his views, the sentiments he expressed do not align with TCU’s values.

His views adversely affected many members of our campus community. The health and safety of the Horned Frog Family is of utmost importance and we encourage individuals to contact campus resources for support.

TCU Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Kathy Cavins-Tull went on to further denounce Crowder by stating in an address to the school

“For some of the members of our community, it was a day of pain and anguish,” Cavins-Tull said. “For others, a day of disappointment that the university failed to remove the source of their pain from the public sidewalk. I want to acknowledge the pain that I saw yesterday and the disappointment that I heard. I also want to acknowledge those who used their voices to oppose to Mr. Crowder and even to criticize the University. Speech is protected for you, too.”

  1. The issue here is that nobody was obligated to be there and listen to him. The people who would feel offended by his stand could just walk away, and in the video there is a policeman noticing that too, telling the crying girl that she doesn’t have to be there.

But she stayed, not because she was forced to stay, but because she wanted him to stop. Being in a public place, she has no right to do it.

    1. She also immedately tries to make the police officer complict in rape culture after telling her he has the right to be here. This is why the #BelieveWomen movement is so dangerous.

    2. I think a bigger issue is the passive way it’s simply granted that hearing opinions they disagree with causes students pain and harm.

Implication One: The college isn’t presenting students with opinions they disagree with, because they want to spare them pain and harm.

Implication Two: The students, or the ideology that this behavior represents, have become so weak and flimsy that they are unable to engage in the primary function of academic life…but will nevertheless go on to form the academic class.

  2. Crowder should take this to every college in America.
