If you haven’t heard much from Avril Lavigne in the last five years, that is because the singer has been recovering from a battle with Lyme Disease that had gotten so bad at one point, she believed that she was going to die. In a statement released on her offical website she stated:

“I’m in a battle,” she sighs. “One night, I thought I was dying, and I had accepted that I was going to die. My mom laid with me in bed and held me. I felt like I was drowning. Under my breath, I prayed ‘God, please help to keep my head above the water.’ In that moment, the songwriting of this album began. It was like I tapped into something. It was a very spiritual experience. Lyrics flooded through me from that point on.

Her new song, ‘Head Above Water’ is a faith-based song that details her journey from sickness back to the health. The video was released this morning as the song has been climbing the Christian Music charts since last week. Lavigne is currently working on releasing her sixth studio album and it will interesting to see if the rest of her songs with match her powerful message of faith as this one. “Head Above Water” is currently available for streaming and download on every major music platform.
