So this review is going to be shorter than my normal reviews for major releases because it is really difficult to explain my problems with this movie without going into spoilers so expect a spoiler discussion later. 10 years and 18 movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has led to this moment. Avengers: Infinity War begins shortly after the events of Thor: Ragnarok as the Mad Titan Thanos has attacked with the goal of obtaining all six infinity stones. Once obtained, Thanos will be able to fulfill his dream and wipe out half the population of the universe with a snap of his fingers.

A few notes about this movie. Thanos is EASILY the best villain in MCU history. The film is at it’s best every time he is on-screen. He’s menacing, powerful, and everytime take he takes on the Avengers, they are powerless in his presence. This is the villain we have waited 10 years for. The movie is presented like a series of short events due to the MASSIVE cast. Due to this style, you have many small groups of superheroes and sadly you don’t get enough time with some of your favorites as you would have wanted. The film lacks in action in many stretches, but the story is so good where there is so much going on, it is impossible to feel bored watching it.

As a moviegoer, this is the perfect popcorn film for audiences, escapism at it’s finest. As a comic book fan, this is everything you have waited a decade for. As a critic, there are a lot of flaws in the movie because with a 2 1/2 hour timeframe that bounces around the universe between characters, there are many things I liked about the film and many things that I didn’t like. You’ll have to wait for the spoiler talk for more detail about the issues but in a nutshell, I really liked Avengers: Infinity War, but I can’t say I loved Avengers: Infinity War.

  2. Thanos is not only the best MCU villain, he’s one of the most interesting and principled villains I’ve seen. He has been worth all the buildup since the first Avengers film.

  3. This is an excellent review that encapsulates the primary virtue of the film. I look forward to your spoiler piece.

I admired Infinity War for being the sole Marvel movie that seemed to look at death and considered its many implications.
